Spotlight on Meaghan Gorman: Champion for Behavioral Health in New Britain and incoming New Britain Rotary President

Megan Gorman is making a profound impact in the behavioral health space through her work with the CMHA (Community Mental Health Affiliates), serving over 7,500 individuals across New Britain, Waterbury, and Naugatuck—including 600 residents from Bristol. Her focus spans all age groups, with services for children, teens, young adults, and adults, including targeted support for veterans and refugees.

Through comprehensive school-based programs, Megan’s team is on-site multiple times per week, working closely with school districts to support students during and after school hours. These services not only address critical issues like anxiety and depression but also ease the burden on school guidance counselors. The programs have proven to be a vital resource for entire families, offering accessible care regardless of insurance status—even though providers are often reimbursed just 30 cents on the dollar for underinsured patients.

CMHA has secured over $8 million in grants to fund these life-changing programs. A passionate advocate, Megan has also contributed to government relations and outreach—especially to veterans, where just two staff members, Victor and Ricco, have reached more than 2,000 veterans.

Megan's journey is just as inspiring—she attended Eastern, pursued graduate studies in Canada, obtaining a Masters in English, and even worked on a political campaign. Her father, Ray Gorman, was a well-known public health figure, and Megan is clearly continuing that legacy through tireless service and advocacy.
