Our District 7890 Team Joined our Zoom!
Some Items to Share:
* Our club should follow state & CDC guidelines when meeting
* John Hewko who is the general secretary and chief executive officer of Rotary International and the Rotary Foundation is extremely passionate about fighting disease - another reason we must adhere to CDC guidelines and not spread disease!
* Randy shared that membership is reaching a critical point - meeting on zoom is great for attracting new members - biggest resistance could be not meeting physically - or the commute. We need members!
* Christine was multi tasking during the meeting - as a teacher in the school she was busy cutting while sharing a bit about her family and other activities she is involved with. She would like the district to be unified - Massachusetts and Connecticut to work together. Possible to work hybrid meetings. For example on March 9th a guest from Global Rotary Radio (you could install on your smartphone)
* Great idea to have Valerie Wafer speak to our club about membership
* Rotary's 7th area of focus is the environment. Joanne would like each club to plant 2 trees - in a park or place they could be enjoyed - even to add a name plaque with our club as a donor
* District 7890 is celebrating their 100th year July 2021-22
* February 26th is the cut off date to register for the virtual North East Present Training (NE PETS)
* Joanne's Installation as District Governor will be July 24th at the Aqua Turf in Southington
* Happy to see Mary as Governors Aide
Patti shared an update on our mask distribution - this time around we donated to Brians Angels, St. Vincent DePaul, Ambulance, Senior Center, Imagine Nation, A Museum Early Learning Center, and the Bristol School Readiness Council
Members of these groups commented that they are happy to get masks to stay safe and appreciate the donation
District 7890 has donated 200,000 masks!
We talked about sharing Lee's Ride for Polio! Lee did a tremendous job and is eager to get back on the trail once they thaw out! It was suggested to share this accomplishment on Facebook, Twitter, District Newsletter - every month, add to the District website, promote at district conference - also don't forget to tag each member's pages! Also to create an Event Groove page (Mary will look into this). Also, Mike McGovern from the Rotary club in Maine would be happy to join our meeting as the RLI Chairperson to kick off the polio fundraising year!
