Christine started off by sharing her love for Rotary and welcomed us to come take a tour any time. She joined SVDP in 2020 and from the start wanted to make the center a safe and welcoming place and be more of a jumping off place not a place of stigma SVDP is not only a homeless shelter but an outreach center.
Those in need must call 211 to get on shelter list, outreach coordinators meet people where they are.
They are in the process of closing encampment housing, and getting the homeless into housing, typically takes 4 weeks, first working on reunification.
2 years ago with the help of ARPA funding they created walk in area. lower level shower, laundry, computer lab, case managers
Largest population of clients are senior citizens, those that went from $700 rent to $1200.
Christine brings her almost 2 year old black lab named Daisy, this pup gets clients and staff members talking.
