Exciting Ornament Update

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of one of the Foundation’s Founders, Sherwood L. Anderson who we refer to as Woody. Simply stated, the Main Street Community Foundation would not exist without Woody. He was one of the twelve individuals that saw a need for a community foundation in this region and spent decades planning for its establishment. He was a visionary who knew an organization like this could be an incredible resource for local communities. He did not stop with its founding in 1995. He continued to guide the Foundation’s growth to become an anchor institution for local philanthropy in Central Connecticut. He served on the Foundation’s first Board of Directors and was the Chair of the Board from 1999-2000. He was then instrumental with the transfer of the Bradley Henry Barnes and Leila Upson Barnes Memorial Trust to the Foundation, which was transformational for the Southington community. He served on the Barnes Memorial Trust Advisory Committee until the day he passed.
Woody was absolutely brilliant. He knew how to take a situation and render an opinion that was clear, unbiased and reasoned. His counsel was highly regarded and sought after. Furthermore, he was kind, personable and funny. He believed in a future of great opportunity for all, and Woody, we will carry on your legacy forever!
We extend our heartfelt condolences to his wife Kate, his entire family and all of his friends.
