Our guest speaker this week was Tom Berrill from Bristol Hospital. He shared some history about the Bristol Hospital:
* Founded in 1921, Bristol Hospital is the leading health provider for people who live and work in the Greater Bristol area. Built from community efforts in 1918 when 1,300 Bristol boys went overseas to France & Belgium - 47 were killed, 27 captured...then came the Spanish flu - Bristol needed a place for people to go - 1st Congregational Church / parish house started taking the sick - eventually the Bristol Hospital was born and 97 years later - employs many Bristol residents and one of the few non-profit Independent Hospitals.
* Recently created The Hospital Without Walls
Respitory therapists are in nursing homes, homes - help residents that suffer from COPD
* Better Breathing Group was created in 2016 - now has over 60 members - they do community outreach, teach smoking cessation classes
* Looking for funding to keep this group going!
